International Day of Yoga 2025 – Nourishing Body, Mind & Soul

International Day of Yoga 2025 – Nourishing Body, Mind & Soul

The International Day of Yoga, observed every year on June 21st, is more than just a global wellness celebration. It is a reminder of the deep-rooted Indian philosophy that promotes balance, not just in posture, but in life. Introduced by India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and endorsed by the United Nations, this day has been globally recognized since 2015, encouraging people everywhere to embrace yoga as a lifestyle.

At Delish Meals, we believe yoga doesn’t end with the mat, it extends to the plate. What you eat has just as much impact on your physical and mental well-being as your daily yoga practice. On this occasion, we invite you to reflect, stretch, and nourish your body—inside and out.

🧘 Why Do We Celebrate International Yoga Day?

The 21st of June, the summer solstice, is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and holds special significance in yoga. According to yogic lore, it marks the day when Lord Shiva, the first yogi (Adiyogi), began sharing his knowledge with his disciples.

Since 2015, the day has been observed by millions across more than 180 countries with mass yoga sessions, awareness campaigns, and community wellness events.

This year's theme, as shared on MyGov.in, focuses on:

"Yoga for Self and Society" – highlighting how individual practice leads to collective well-being.

🌿 The Connection Between Yoga and Diet

Yoga isn’t just about flexibility or strength—it’s a complete way of life. One of the core principles of yoga is Ahimsa, or non-violence, which extends to what we eat. That's why many yoga practitioners prefer a vegetarian, Satvik (pure and balanced) diet—just like the meals we serve at Delish Meals.

Key Principles of a Yogic Diet:

  • Light and easy to digest

  • Fresh, seasonal, and plant-based

  • Prepared with mindfulness

  • Balanced in taste and nutrients

These are the same principles we apply to our meal plans—whether it's a comforting dal-chawal combo, a lightly spiced sabzi with phulka, or nourishing khichdi.

💬 Reflect. Breathe. Nourish.

As yoga teaches us to find harmony between body, breath, and consciousness, we at Delish Meals encourage you to do the same with your food. Take time to chew slowly, eat mindfully, and choose meals that align with your health goals.

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” – Hippocrates

This Yoga Day, let’s move, meditate, and nourish with intention.
